Wedding Fashion

Every occasion requires one to maintain a particular dress code. And one such very special occasion in an individual's life is their wedding day. This is day is special for not only the couple coming together, but the entire family of both the bride and groom, as well as the relatives and friends invited. No wonder, since time immemorial wedding fashion is about the most expensive clothes, along with the jewelry. The bride is dressed to look like a queen.

According to Hindu philosophy and mythology the Gods and Goddesses also attend the wedding to shower their blessings on the couple. This adds to jubilation attached to a marriage. No wonder brides-to-be spend months together searching for the perfect wedding dress. Not only her, but even her immediate family and closest friends spend a long time going from shop-to-shop searching for what they should wear on that special day.

And if one thought that this was limited to just the bride, well even the groom is particular about what he is going to wear on the wedding day. Apart from the cold feet of tying the knot, he is also anxious about his clothes and accessories. Like in case of the bride this extends to his immediate family and friends. Such excitement exists in both the houses.

In spite of the constant changes in fashion through the years, yet the wedding fashion seems to have remained more or less the same. However, there are a lot of people, who prefer to skip excessive expenditure on their finery and opt for something realistic where pricing is concerned. There is an entire tribe of youth who do not look towards their parents to carry the expenditure of their wedding and prefer to spend from their own savings. And so they avid the designer wear and opt for the cheaper boutique garments. For them every Rupee saved is precious for their settling down.

Overlooking the price aspect, the fashion that prevails is the heavy ghagra choli, the sari or salwar kameez. These garments have been the traditional wedding dresses of the Indian women. However, depending on the caste and cultural background, there are modifications to these garments including casual wedding dresses. And along with the heavily embroidered outfit, there is a lot of jewelry to be worn. Generally a make up artist is hired to dress up the bride for her special day.

Another aspect that has remained a constant in Indian wedding fashion is the henna that is applied on the hands and feet of the bride. A henna artist is called either a day or two before the wedding. She sketches on the hands and feet of the bride fine designs. Her assistants sketch designs on the hands of all the females related to the bride.

Indian Fashion

Introduction: From leaves and the barks of the trees, the garment history of the world has constantly been witnessing major changes with each passing era. And in the last century the changes have been prominent and happening every few years. And in the last decade there is a shift in trends and fashion every six months. This has been a conspicuous part of the Indian fashion industry that is growing by leaps and bounds.

Just like Paris, Milan and other international fashion destinations have their seasonal showcasing of fashion designers; similarly this trend has become a part of the fashion scene in India. The largest domestic cosmetic company hosts the fashion week that occurs twice a year. It not exhibits renowned designers, but also is a platform for new designers too.

And interestingly vendors from across the globe visit the fashion shows to make purchases for their markets. Thus, India today, is also marked on the international fashion map.

However, for those who have not known this, after China, India has maintained the position of being the second largest job-worker for international brands. It is the largest exporter of garments. But, the scene is different today; as the nation has a closet of fashion designers who are also creating trends across the globes, instead of letting India simply follow world trends.

While the western fashion of jeans and skirts seem to dominate the scene, yet the traditional salwar kameez, chudidar kameez and sari, continue to be a primary theme in India's fashion.

In fact, Indian fashion designers have created a new category of clothing, which is showcased as the indo-western line or collection of clothing. In this collection the designer blends the dominant trend of the western world into the Indian dress.

But no matter what maybe dominating the fashion designing scene, yet India has contributed the most gracious of garments in the form of the traditional sari. This is the signature of the true Indian woman. It is a garment that brings out the sensuality of Indian beauty.

It is a versatile garment that can be draped in various ways, and is as diverse as the number of States in the nation. When the world thinks of Indian fashion, it is the picture of a woman in a sari that first comes to mind.

Fashion Designing

India today has a rapidly progressing economy with even better future prospects. Therefore the country is today witnessing rapid growth in many sectors which includes the Indian fashion industry. Because of cheap labor and excellent craftsmanship, Indian fashion is gaining popularity overseas and many top Indian designers are now catering to this demand. In addition for the demand for Indian garments, designer sarees and textiles overseas, India itself has a huge scope for its fashion industry as the area of Indian fashion encompasses the fashion and styles of a multitude of communities and India fashion also caters to the preferences of so many regional folk.
To understand the complicated and vast are of Indian fashion hence, one can enroll in one of the many top fashion designing schools in India. Many individuals choose careers in fashion designing today as there are many areas of work and countless opportunities within this field. Fashion houses and apparel management companies regularly look for employees to work in various situations like fashion-designing positions, textile designer jobs, for modeling assignments and to be there to provide end-solutions for their clients’ needs and to ensure customer satisfaction.

Many styles of fashion-designing are typical to India and these serve as evidence of the country’s ancient fashion designing history. For example, tie-and-dye and mirror-work are ancient folk styles of fashion-designing that hail from the areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan in India. Today, however with their rapidly expanding horizons, Indians do not limit their fashion to tradition and in fact, in major cities of India, the general preference tends to incline towards western wear.

Dress Designer

To prepare a designer dress for your mom, first of all get her measurements and buy a lovely silk dress of a shade your mother likes. To make a designer clothing you need different color threads, beads and sequins, small mirrors and laces of shades that go well with the shade of the dress. Draw a nice pattern on the dress. You can restrict yourself to the borders and hems of the dress or you can draw patterns to cover the whole dress.

After you have the pattern drawn, you can start stitching the mirrors, beads and sequins according to the pattern. Use your creativity and imagination to get the best color combinations and the most ethnic and gorgeous look and feel. Be neat and use small stitches.

If you’re looking for something a little unique and different to what’s available in the shops, or fancy trying your hand at dress designing without all the hard graft, then we recommend you take a good look at Style Shake. Bag a little number from here and you can be sure no one else will be wearing the same outfit as you at the Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties, plus you get the chance to flex your creative mitts. Just imagine when someone next asks you where you got your outfit from, you can say you designed it yourself.

Dropping into this boutique little site is like popping to your local tailor and suggesting they whip up a little something just for you. First, you choose the colour of the dress you want, along with the fabric. Then you choose from an assortment of necklines, upper bodices, sleeves, waist panels, lower bodices and even trimmings to create the finished product.

The site is cleverly designed and once you’re in there designing new dresses, it becomes a bit addictive. I created six new dresses before I could force myself to leave. And should you be stuck for inspiration, there are more than 4,000 designs by fellow Style Shake fans to help give you some ideas.

Style Shake founder and CEO Iris Ben-David says: “We all love fashion and having it our own way. We also know that different women have different needs, preferences and passions. That’s why we started Style Shake – an online fashion studio which allows visitors to create their own individual and inspiring designs, share them with our creative community and wear them.

“We wanted to create a site for people who love individuality. And if when you receive your dress, you need to make any alterations, we will do that for free. We’re just like your neighbourhood tailor, we’ll make it perfect.”

Style Shake uses ethical fabrics, some of which are organic where possible. “Our organic silk is made and dyed by hand, from companies that also provide fabrics to couture houses,” says Iris.

I designed and ordered myself a silver babydoll dress from the site and it really is quite exciting to receive something you’ve helped to create yourself in the post. (It’s also somehow rather touching, because you know that people have been working behind the scenes to create something unique to you. And I must say, I’m rather looking forward to showing it off.)
